Dear Families,
We have had a busy but productive first few weeks of term. Our students are enjoying the new basketball surface which is getting lots of use during play times and PE lessons. It is also lovely to see our families and the wider community enjoying this area together after school and on weekends.
Landcare Award Winners
Last weekend, our school were announced as the statewide winners of a Landcare award for the work which takes place in our amazing school garden. In addition to winning a number of prizes, we are now also nominees in the upcoming National Landcare Awards. On Sunday, we welcomed a large number of Landcare members to our school to tour our garden and see the remarkable progress that has been made and they were all incredibly impressed. I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the incredible work done by Mrs Peta Burr, Ms Nat Barkoczy and Aunty Deb Hocking to make our program so engaging for our students.
Planning for next year
We used our recent Student Free Day to begin planning for 2020. We will continue our strong focus on strengthening our whole school approaches to the teaching of literacy and numeracy alongside improving student attendance, engagement and wellbeing. In the coming weeks we will start to look at class placements. Our teachers give great consideration to the academic and wellbeing needs of students when considering their class placements. If there are any specific considerations you would like noted, you are welcome to submit these to me in writing or via face to face appointment before the 15th November. Please understand that placement requests on the basis of friendships, and for specific teachers, cannot be accommodated.
Congratulations!
Skye L (5/6S) has been selected to receive a special academic achievement award recognising significant improvement and growth in NAPLAN. She will be presented with her award at a special ceremony at New Town High School on Monday. Congratulations Skye!

VOLUNTEERING IN THE SCHOOL AND ON EXCURSIONS
Volunteers/parents/guardians who work within the school or are asked to assist on excursions are required to have a Working with Vulnerable Persons Card.
Usually there is a cost involved, BUT....... if you click on the link below you can register at no cost. All you have to do is say yes when it asks if you are volunteering, then it will ask you where.... put in Risdon Vale Primary and underneath type in LIFT.
When it comes to the payment section, do not pay but print off the receipt and take it to Service Tasmania. When you go to Service Tasmania tell them that you are a LIFT parent and there should be no charge.
Also Jacqui Cruse has offered to assist anybody in the school to complete the registration form.
Please call the office to make an appointment.

Thank you to those families who have returned their enrolment forms.
