PRINCIPALS MESSAGE

Dear Families,

 Friday Afternoon Options

Each term, our grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 students have the opportunity to opt into an additional program.  The programs offered this term are dance with Drill Dance Company, cooking at the neighbourhood centre, drama, soccer, bike riding with the Risdon Vale Bike Collective and sport with Mr Harper.  Our programs got underway last Friday and our students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities offered to them.

 Attendance

Attendance at school is so very important as we know that students who attend regularly have greater success at school and in later life.  It is expected that children are at school by 9:00am until the end of the day (2:40pm).  Please try to schedule appointments and holidays outside of school time wherever possible.

Parents are obliged to advise the school of the reason each time their child is absent from school.   To assist with this, the school sends an automated SMS each time a child is away from school or arrives late. Parents can reply to the SMS or they can contact the school office to explain the reasons.  The school is obligated to account for all unexplained absences and so we may follow up with a phone call or send a letter requesting explanations to ensure our records are kept up to date.

 School Captains and SRC

Each year, we provide our grade six students with the opportunity to nominate themselves for school captain and to present a speech in front of the school as to why they would be a great representative for our school.  Preparing a speech and standing up in front of a large audience takes enormous courage and preparation and we are so proud of every one of our students who took on this challenge.  Congratulations to Bonnie Holmyard and Hunter Bridges who were elected as this year’s captains. I know that they will be wonderful leaders and representatives for our school.

In addition to our school captains, we have an elected Student Representative Council which is made up of two student representatives from each of the primary classes.  This group meet together regularly to discuss ways we can improve our school and to organise charity fundraisers.  Our newly elected SRC representatives and school captains were presented with their badges in our assembly on Monday.  Congratulations to all of these students!
